Baphomet, the sabbatic half-goat, half man is a deity worshipped for his 'between worlds' ways.
His representation is often half-man, half-goat, to show how man is just as much an animal as the rest of the animal kingdom, and he is sometimes shown as half male, half female.
Baphomet is often depicted with a flame above his head representing knowledge or enlightenment. His hands are pointed up and down to represent the tenet 'as above-so below'.
Ultimately, Baphomet represents the divine and physical binary, showing without one, the other would not be possible.
